The Iraqi government announced Tuesday that it has launched a military operation to drive the Islamic State militants out of the western province of Anbar.

Without elaborating, Iraqi state TV announced the launching of the operation, which is set to involve Shiite and Sunni paramilitary forces.

Apparently, there have been some contradictions in the statements between the United States and Iraqi government. The Iraqis claimed that the city of Baiji was free from ISIS, while the US said that only half of the town is controlled by Iraqi government.

“It’s too early to declare Baiji liberated,” the US official, who has access to the latest intelligence on the matter, told CNN.

Nasir al-Wuhayshi, the leader of Al-Qaeda’s powerful Yemeni branch, has been killed by a US drone strike in Yemen, Al-Qaeda confirmed

Al-Wuhayshi is considered Al-Qaeda’s No. 2 leader, which makes his death the second biggest blow to Al-Qaida since the killing of Osama bin Laden in 2011.

A boiling heat wave across southern Pakistan has killed nearly 700 people, authorities said Tuesday, as morgues are packed with the dead, while crowded hospitals are having a hard time providing aid to those in need. 

Health officials said most deaths occurred in the largest city of Pakistan, Karachi, which has experienced temperatures as high as 45C (113F) in recent days.

On Tuesday, London commemorated the 10th anniversary of the July 7, 2005 bombings that killed 52 people, which is the deadliest terrorist attack on British soil.
