Is Tinder the Modern Dating Game?
Posted in: LIFE AND HOME
Just when you thought your dating life couldn’t get any more boring, somebody out there invented the modern dating app that is now popularly known as Tinder. When you go on a night out with your girlfriends they’re often preoccupied either swiping left or swiping right using their phones (okay, the proper word is “Tindering”), and there you are, the ostracized twenty-something woman who’s stuck with her phone playing the latest free Android game. What is it with Tinder that suddenly revolutionized and modernized the dating scene? Here are 6 things you need to know about Tinder:
1) Tinder is user-friendly
You don’t need to know the ins and outs of modern dating as Tinder is easy to use unlike those dating websites you’ve seen being advertised on your computer screen. What we mean by saying it is user-friendly is that you only need to have a Facebook profile and voila! You can create an instant Tinder account. Once you’ve matched with someone, that’s the only time they can start a conversation with you. And if it’s a horror talking to them, you can always unmatch them anytime you want so they could no longer bother you.
2) The embarrassment factor is quite restricted
The truth is, it’s more embarrassing walking up to a guy in a bar and striking up a conversation and later find out that he’s just that not into you. The Tinder app on the other hand gives a certain embarrassment filter say you ‘like’ a guy with the Channing Tatum-esque smile and body. He’ll never know that you liked him unless he likes you back.
3) Tinder is appearance-based
Admit it or not, we like people based on their physical appearance. And that’s perfectly normal because we as humans are very visual. Anything that is visually stimulating and satisfying caters to our prurient interest. The tip here is to upload your best photos so that you get to get as many likes as you want.
4) Some Tinder users are masked under the guise of anonymity
Well this is the problem with online dating, if you could call it as such. There’s a research published by Business Insider which shows that 30% of Tinder users are married. Some red flags would include a Tinder user you've been chatting with for weeks... and still not give his/her number. Or someone who wouldn't show up on a date just "because". Be wise enough to walk away at the onset of signs.
5) Tinder is sadly becoming a hook-up app
I hate to break it to you but if you’re looking for a serious relationship, sadly Tinder is not the place to be. Gone were the days of Tinder when men and women are only in it for a friendly conversation that might turn into something romantic, sometimes a canon ball of passion all rolled into one. Nowadays, the app is becoming casual-sex oriented, bang in the wall, get-in, get laid, get-out, hate-to-break-it-up-to-you-but-I’m-not-ready-to-commit.
6) Tinder is tragically de-romanticizing love and relationships
In this present modern generation where hook ups and casual sex are no longer considered a taboo, will you ever find a potential romantic relationship partner who’s interested in the beauty of your soul and not just your body? It might be hard to answer especially if you are one of them but hey we are not judging. The problem with virtual and online dating apps like Tinder is that it cheapens human interaction and the possibility of finding serious commitments. If you are into having fun and if relationships are not your forte, then Tinder is for you but if you’re sick of playing the same stupid games, then dear it’s time to quit using it.
