Let My Yellow Canary cheer you up with a delicious smoothie.

The sun might not be blazing down outside right and you might not see many people sunbathing outside your window but isn’t it still a good time to add some tropical delights to your day?

There are few types of food that get us into a totally tropical mood in the way mango and passion fruit do. Simply saying the names of these wonderful fruits mentally transports us to a white sandy beach with palm trees and warm water. The sensation doesn’t last for long, of course, but it is still a nice escape from the great British winter.

In that case, it is easy to see why this recipe we have gleaned from the BBC Good Food site could be just the thing to cheer us up on a gloomy winter’s day in the UK. If you are fed up with the cold and the rain then try adding these lovely tropical flavours to your day and see if it brings a smile to your face. We bet that it will.

The only reasonably difficult thing about this smashing smoothie recipe might be getting hold of the tropical fruits in the first place, although we hope that your friendly local supermarket will come to the rescue. Once you get hold of the ingredients it is a short and simple process to turn them into a tasty and extremely healthy drink.

The Health Benefits

Mango is a great fruit for so many reasons. Not least among these is the fact that the high amount of Vitamins A, C and E can help improve our skin and hair as well as fight off winter colds. The antioxidants are also fantastic for helping to slow the ageing process. Passion fruit is also an enormously beneficial fruit, with a lot of Vitamin A and C, as well as catorenoids that help the body to absorb all that Vitamin A better.

Ingredients 

You need to get;

  • 400 grams of ripe mango
  •  4 passion fruits
  • the juice from 12 limes
  • 250 ml of skimmed milk
  • a couple of 125 gram of mango yogurt.

Method

  • Simply pop the mango, the milk and the scrummy yogurt into your blender and blend until it is, well, smooth.
  • Then add in the lime juice and stir it all around.
  • Finally, you will want to scoop out the pulp from the halved passion fruits and put it into each glass before giving it a final little swirl. That’s it ready to drink.
