Everyone loves Valentine’s day. Oh wait! Well... maybe not everyone. If you are single and no one has asked you to be their valentine yet, then being alone on that day, can be depressing. You may have been doing fine being single all this time, until Valentine’s day comes and everyone picks on you for being unattached. While the whole world is in a romantic mood, you feel left out and all alone. It makes you want to just crawl under a rock until its all over.

Don’t worry! Here is your single’s survival guide to get you through Valentine’s day:

It happens only once a year

Keep you heads up single people! Valentine’s day is just one day out of a whole year. What’s the worse that can happen anyway? You can spend the day by feeling envious of the lovers around you or by feeling sorry for yourself for not having anyone to go out with. On the other hand, you can just let valentines day pass by and just wait for things to go back to normal the very next day.

Remind yourself “It’s Just One Day!”

It’s comforting to know that the occassion only lasts for a day. You only have to endure 24 hours of being around cut out hearts, love songs and couples doing PDA in the streets. So, if you come to a point where you feel like singing “All by myself” at the top of your lungs, just keep it together. Valentine’s day doesn’t last forever.

Keep Yourself Busy

Doing nothing on Valentines Day will just make you feel miserable. If you choose to stay home and wait it out, keep yourself busy and distracted from all the romance in the air. Do what you enjoy the most and keep your mind occupied for hours.   Maybe it's time to finish that book you have always wanted to read; or do a marathon of horror movies while you munch on some popcorn. Whatever you do,  do not mope and dwell in self pity.

Go out and date yourself

Just because you do not have a date, does not mean you have to stay home alone. Why not go out and date yourself? Go to your favorite restaurant and eat whatever you want. Go treat yourself to a shopping spree. Pamper yourself, by spending the day at the spa or just take that vacation that you've always wanted for yourself. Plan the day ahead so every moment of Valentine’s day would be about loving yourself.

Go out with your single friends

You know what they say, misery loves company. If you have just come from a bad breakup, you will need a support group to get you through the V day. Go out or spend time with your other single friends. You can all celebrate your freedom together, by sharing each other’s tragic love stories and making fun of your exs.

Enjoy the Freedom

Being single means you are free to do what ever you want to do and go where ever you want to go. See it as an advantage and enjoy the freedom that you have. Instead of feeling sorry for yourself for not having anyone to share valentines day with, celebrate your being single. Think of all the things you can do that the taken ones can no longer enjoy.

Make the day all about love

Valentines Day is a celebration of love. It doesn't have to always be about romance and dating. Surround yourself with people whom you know love you without question. Spend the day with your family even if they make fun of you and tease you about your be single. Volunteer to babysit for the children of your married relative, so they can go on their date. Being around people you love will get you through this day because you will not feel alone anymore.

Think of All The Money You Will Save

Look on the bright side. Because you have no date to worry about, you don’t have to spend any money on chocolates, flowers, gifts, or dinners. You don’t have to buy a new outfit, fancy jewelry or expensive perfume. Imagine how much money you get to save, thanks to your being single on Valentine’s day.
