Majority of people hate change because after all, it is a scary thing to contemplate. This is why a lot of people try hard to stick to their old routines and lifestyles even though it is no longer fitting (or healthy) for them. This is most especially true of careers. Oftentimes, people are stuck in a certain career or work environment (even if they are no longer happy) out of fear of change. The truth is that it can be quite difficult to shift careers especially if you have already established power and experience in the current industry that you are in, right?

However, if you are currently feeling bummed about your career, it may be a passing phase or it can also be a sign that it’s time for a career shift. How would you distinguish if it’s just a bad day at work or if you are in the wrong career? Well, here are 5 signs that will help indicate if you need to make that shift right away:

Sign #1: You are not a firm believer of your company’s mission and vision.

Every time you mention or hear someone saying the mission and vision of your company, you roll your eyes. You think all of the things they are saying are just say clichés and you believe that your company is just making all those things up just to look good in front of clients or business partners. Additionally, you do not have great faith in the products and services that your company offers.

Sign #2: You feel stressed at work more often than you are happy.

You dread waking up and going to work. You feel anxious about doing the same things every day for the rest of your life. In fact, you have felt this way for a very long time that you have forgotten when was the last time you feel excited and happy going to work.

Sign #3: Your only motivation to work is the money.

Despite the anxiety and dread that you are feeling, you still push yourself to go to work because of the money you earn and the security your current job gives you. While security and regular paycheck is important, you have to reconsider if it is worth staying in your job if those are the only reasons that you have for staying.

Sign #4: You have no good things to say to your colleagues.

When asked about your colleagues, all that you can ever think of are criticisms, especially when you hear the name of your boss.

Sign #5: Your frustration at work has negatively affected your relationships.

All these negative feelings that you have for your career do not just affect you—it also affects all your other relationships. Because of the stress and unhappiness you have at work, you get easily tired, depressed and irritable, so much that you have nothing to offer to your family when you come home.

Keep in mind that your work plays a very important role in your life. In fact, majority of your hours in a day is spent on work. This is why there is no use in staying in a career that doesn’t make you happy or fulfilled. At first, you may need to make some adjustments on your finances and lifestyle but no money can ever replace the feeling of contentment when you finally found the job that you will love. Plus, the new year awaits so much more.
