Prepare for a Successful Job Interview -- Here's How
Posted in: CAREER
Job interview is a crucial moment in the life of every person. At times people have to go through dozens of job interviews to land a job. No CV or references will ever replace a real-life interview with the potential employee.
First of all, you have to put yourself in the shoes of your employer. What employee is he/she looking for? What does he/she want to see in you and hear from you? What are the criteria he/she is using when assessing your skills? Last but not least: what kind of impression will be most convincing for him/her to give you the job?
You’ve probably already heard the importance of the first impression. So make sure you make a good first impression at the job interview: your clothes must meet the requirements of the job you want to be hired for.
Think about every detail of your clothing. It may be that a business suit is not appropriate for every job position, but tidy clothing in business-like style, clean hair and nails, and polished shoes will make the so-desired positive impression.

Make sure everything that comes out of your mouth during the job interview makes sense. How do you do it? Rehearse at home! Make sure you rehearse such phrases as ‘I’ve read in the job description that you want this and that, well, I can do this and that’ (and list all the things relevant for the job).
Imagine that you are an actor and you have to rehearse. Play roles either alone or with your friend and come up with all kinds of plots. Rehearse the job interview a few times. Make sure you have answers to all traditional questions asked at job interviews:
1. Tell me about yourself.
2. What are your strengths?
3. What are your weaknesses?
4. Why do you want this job?
5. Where would you like to be in your career five years from now?
You can easily find a list of the most commonly asked job interview questions on the Internet.

Fears and being anxious will only worsen your performance at the job interview, which is why you must replace it with confidence. How? First of all, change the way you perceive this job interview.
Here’s the rub: the more important we think the event is, the more we are anxious about it and therefore the more mistakes we make during this event. If you want to pass the job interview with confidence and excellence, bring down its importance. Relax.
Just before entering the office where your job interview is about to take place, sit down for a few moments, stay calm and try to relax. Make sure your breathing is steady and calm and you can breathe easily.
The job interview
You have to understand that during the job interview, a particular person (your job interviewer) matters more than the company itself. So make sure you reach out to him in the most positive way: smile, stay positive and polite. Try to talk about things he/she cares about (just look around the office, you will likely find something of his/her interest).
That’s it. Now it all depends on you and it’s all in your hands. Remember that no matter what, this job interview is not the end of your life – it’s only the beginning of it.
