Posted in: FILM THIS WEEKEND
Are we all set for the return of Robert Langdon? The wait is finally over for Dan Brown fans as “Inferno” hits the screens this weekend. And, you are in more luck because a new Dan Brown book “Origin” is also in order! The film takes off from where “Angels and Demons” left off in the series. But, do we need to brush up on our story and re-read some facts about the film? We certainly do because the makers actually decided to give “The Lost Symbol” a miss and went on to make “Inferno” directly. So what are we missing? And where is the movie going to take us? Let’s find out and prep up before we head to the theatres to catch this one!
What Happened So Far? - In the previous films we saw Robert Langdon solving some intriguing mysteries. In “The Da Vinci Code” secret messages in the artist’s works were deciphered, while in “Angels and Demons” we saw a controversy at the Vatican unfold!
Plot - “Inferno” opens with Robert Langdon waking up with amnesia, and having no clues about how he spent the last 36 hours. The only known fact is that now he’s on run from the law and needs to find a deadly weapon referenced in “Dante’s Inferno” in order to stop a global annihilation.
The Books - Like we pointed, the movie is going to be an adaptation of the fourth book in the series “Inferno”, while the third book adaptation has been. There are also a lot of references and to Dante’s actual works.
Fact Vs. Fiction - The “quotes” from Dante’s Inferno are fiction. While the organisation Brown refers to as “The Consortium” is a factual organisation that actually exists! The name however had been changed due to security concerns.
Setting and Background - The series has essentially been set in different European cities always, and so is “Inferno”. However, in “Inferno” we return to square one as in “The Da Vinci Code” as the movie is also set in an Italian city.
The Team - Tom Hanks reprises his role as Robert Langdon, while Felicity Jones joins in as the female lead. We also have Omar Sy, Irrfan Khan, Sidse Babett Knudsen and Ben Foster, to complete the cast. The superhit duo team of Tom Hanks, and director Ron Howard also return.
So, are you watching “Inferno” this weekend?
