There are few better ideas for getting inspired than by just sitting down and watching a great film about real women who have done incredible things in their lives. The following are some of the very best movies about women who can teach us a few things worth learning; they truly depict a woman worth noting.

Erin Brockovich

This is one of Julia Roberts' finest moments, as she turns in a fantastic performance as a legal clerk who takes on a giant company that is contaminating the water supply in California. Julia won an Academy Award, Golden Globe and BAFTA for this film. Erin Brokovich teaches us that a woman who puts her mind to a task can be a force to be reckoned with, even if the odds are stacked against her and she is in a male dominated environment.

Norma Rae

This 1979 drama tells the tale of a poor textile factory from a small town in the US.  The movie is based on the true story of Crystal Lee Sutton and how she fought doggedly for better working conditions and union representation. Sally Field plays the lead character that gets sent to prison for her beliefs and is put under pressure at work and at home. Despite this, she never stops fighting for justice. Sally won an Academy Award for the role and it all adds up to moving and powerful film. Again, we see how a strong woman with unshakable beliefs can do extraordinary things in the face of adversity.

Woman in Gold

This brilliant 2015 movie features Helen Mirren as Maria Altmann. She was a Jewish refugee who fought tooth and nail to recover a family heirloom from the Austrian Government.  The valuable portrait of her aunt was taken away by the Nazis at the start of WWII.  60 years later, the elderly Maria teamed up with a young lawyer to fight a 10-year legal battle to get it back.  This moving film is almost certain to pick up some awards in the next year or so. It is another wonderful example of a determined woman looking for justice and stopping at nothing to see the battle through to the bitter end, despite setbacks and overwhelming odds.

Temple Grandin

This 2010 biography of Mary Temple Grandin might not be the most successful or well-known film about an inspirational woman but it is loved by many of those who have seen it. It is all about an autistic lady who develops more humane ways of dealing with livestock, while also working hard as an autism activist and overcoming sexism and discrimination. The lead role is taken by Claire Danes. This movie might just inspire you to see that overcoming the odds and helping the world is something within the reach of all of us. Grandin has been listed on the Time 100 most influential heroes.
