2010s follow up to Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland hits the screen this weekend, bringing our endless wait to an end. We’ve basked in the goodness of Tim Bruton’s “Underland” -  a familiar territory that we absolutely do not mind revisiting! Does it get bigger and better this time? Well, only “Time” will tell. Especially since it’s “Time” himself playing the ruthless villain in this film. And, if that doesn’t get us intrigued enough, we don’t know what does! But we also have a few other reasons we are very very excited-  here’s why!

The Soundtrack

A classic song by Jeffereson Airplane which is originally based on – surprise surprise – Alice in Wonderland the fairytale, reprised in the voice of Pink! featuring in the first trailers of the film – now that’s a soundtrack done right! We loved the whole grungy twist to the song and it definitely did peak up our interests.

The Cast!

Oh the cast! We have big names like Helena Bonham Carter and Anne Hathaway. Plus Mia Wasikowska, she is already known to nail the Alice portrayal. Sacha Baron Cohen stars in his most menacing role yet, as the Lord of Time. And, how can we forget Johnny “freaking” Depp as the whimsical Mad Hatter? It’s always a delight to have him back with his brand of crazy in a Disney film.

There are a bunch of new characters added to the crazy train including talking rabbits and Alan Rickman voiced butterflies – it seriously doesn’t get better than this. Oh wait, we also found “swoon-king” Richard Armitage’s name in the list, playing King Oleron – father of the Red and White Queens. Strange and intriguing at the same time!

A Promising Plot

Let’s talk about the plot because that is kind of one of the most important things at play – So after getting back from the bizarre world of Underland, Alice must make a journey back to the mysterious world through a magical mirror and back in time to retrieve the magic scepter to stop the malicious Lord of Time from turning Wonderland into a lifeless barren land. Alice and her friends must put the Queen of Hearts back on the throne.

So yes, the plot is as magical and larger than life as it gets.

The Predecessor – Literally, all the movie has to do was channel its predecessor’s vibe and it should be fine! Even though we have director James Bobin running the show this time, the film looks as magnificent visually. It seems to bring to life its whimsical persona yet again. And, it has Tim Burton’s seal of approval which kind of means something! BRB, getting ready to go down the rabbit hole!
