Film this Weekend: Spotlight
Posted in: FILM THIS WEEKEND
Things are about to get busy for movie goers at the theater this weekend! Two unlikely contenders are set for a wide release - John Krasinski starrer action blockbuster “13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi” and “Spotlight”, a compelling and powerful biography-drama.
Director Tom McCarthy’s biography/drama, “Spotlight” is marked by intelligent retelling of true events, ace acting and a sharp script.
Starring Michael Keaton, Mark Ruffalo, and Rachel McAdams, as the “Spotlight” team of journalists working for the Boston Globe, the film is a detailed account of a series of events where they were instrumental in unearthing a serious scandal of child molestation within the Catholic Archdiocese.
In what might be one of the best newspaper movies in all time, Spotlight attempts to relay one of the most controversial events in near memory and does it without over-stepping its bounds. It refrains from over-hyping of events and gives a clear view into the unraveling of the investigation resulting in a subtle and succinct retelling of a true story with the right amount of drama.
Spotlight is grabbing attention of the critics for all the right reasons. It has a sensitive subject in hand and it delivers perfectly. Missing it in the cinemas this weekend would definitely be an unviable loss for ardent movie goers.
