This biographical movie tells the incredible and moving story of Brian Wilson, the musical genius behind the massive success of the Beach Boys.

It starts off in the 1960s, with Paul Dano playing the part of your Brian, as his group starts to gain phenomenal success with a string of catchy, upbeat surfing songs.  He then decides to stop touring and concentrate on making the greatest studio album ever produced. Things then get a lot more difficult for him as he has to fight against mental illness and serious bouts of depression.

John Cusack plays the middle-aged version of Brian in the 1980s. At this point, his mental illness was getting worse, as he was now hearing voices in his head. The film shows how controversial therapist Dr Eugene Landy entered his life.  Paul Giamatti plays the therapist, who is accused of taking over Brian's life and manipulating him.

Elizabeth Banks plays a saleswoman called Melinda whom Brian meets when looking to buy a car. She finds out about his problems and resolves to free him from his relationship with the therapist.

Love & Mercy was premiered at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival, where it got a standing ovation and some terrific reviews.  The musical score and the acting of Dano are among the points that have been strongly praised about the movie. Brian Wilson himself said that it is very realistic.

You don't have to be a fan of Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys to enjoy this film. It is a fascinating look at how a famous musician can see his life turned upside down by personal problems and then seemingly loose all control of his own life.

This is a fascinating and emotional movie that is worth going to have a look at if you want to see something that makes you think and that shows you a completely different side to the celebrity life and the music business.
