Film This Weekend: High Rise
Posted in: FILM THIS WEEKEND
This weekend two surprisingly good films open at the UK box office. While “10 Cloverfield Lane” is a gripping thriller, “High Rise” starring the suave Tom Hiddleston is a beautifully shot, surreal adaptation of a classic novel.
Adapted from JG Ballard’s classic novel, “High Rise” is a dark comedy, sci-fi/drama that paints a picture of the First World Strife as a social community living in a high rise building.
A doctor moves into a high rise society that separates itself from the world and gradually things start spirally as the residents divide into tribes by themselves. “High Rise” is an honest adaptation of its source and keeps the dark tone and its disturbing nature alive.
There are some stellar performances in the film by Tom Hiddleston, Sienna Miller and Jeremy Irons, and the cinematography and executions look stunning.
The film dwells in surrealism and satire, and yet draws references from the society and human relations. It creates a headspace and a fictional world for the audience and never moves away from it, while still being believable. A fine depiction by veteran director, Ben Wheatley!
So, that’s what we have happening at the box office, folks! The two very different films might appeal to different sections of the audience, but are fine in their own rights, nonetheless. We are looking forward to a good time at the cinemas this weekend!
