Will it be a fast chase in the streets of France or a trip down to the wild -west for us, this weekend? The two movies hitting the screen are Bastille Day and Jane Got a Gun, and we’re about to find out what’s worth our attention!

Idris Elba and Richard Madden, come together in this slick fast-paced action film as the unlikely duo of a cop and a thief. When a small time pickpocket in the streets of Paris, Michael Mason (Richard Madden) finds himself being hunted by the CIA on accidentally stealing a bomb, Agent Sean Briar figures he’s just an unwitting pawn. The duo must now cooperate to uncover a conspiracy plot.

It’s been a while we have had a cop-thief duo in a movie, and that alone makes the film quite the refreshing watch. Elba and Madden’s chemistry together shines through and fans that have enjoyed Madden’s performances in Game of Thrones and Cinderella are in for a surprise as he effortlessly moulds into the garb of a clueless smalltime crook. Idris Elba brings a crisp performance to the table as always.

The script can be bordering on silly at times, but the fast paced action and the zippy chase scenes through the streets of Paris makes up for most of it. Director James Watkins, the maker of The Woman in Black, trades a watertight script for thrills and intrigues, and succeeds in making a film that is hardly ever boring. Rest assured, one can munch on their popcorn without reading too much into it, and just expect to get their money’s worth of entertainment.
