All women encounter the problem of having stretch marks at some point of our lives. The sudden weight changes, hormonal disorders, building up muscles and pregnancy – these are the most common reasons of stretch marks. Recently, celebrity Chris Teigen shared an unedited picture of her post-baby strech marks and made us realise how normal it was to our own!

Just to describe, stretch marks are cracked skin cells, which have been ‘mended’ by the connective tissue. A little bit of scarring of red color appears in the place of the laceration, and the skin becomes white after a while. Stretch marks mostly appear on the buttocks, hips, stomach and breasts. Of course, everyone is different and the disposition of having stretch marks depends on your skin type and elasticity. And while you can’t change your nature, you can still take some preventative measures. 

Vitamin E must become your bathtub pal. Rub it in your skin at least two times a week as a preventative measure from having stretch marks. If you are pregnant, then rub it in every day.

It does not guarantee that you will never have stretch marks, but it will help you avoid scarring. As it has been noted, people who apply vitamin E regularly, tend to have their stretch marks turn white more quickly.

Instead of using the usual body lotion, use wheat germ oil.

Wheat germ oil is a unique product because of its composition. It nourishes, moisturizes your skin and stimulates collagen production. That is why it is very useful for preventing stretch marks.

Eat more protein. Protein is a ‘building’ component for collagen and elastin, which are responsible for skin elasticity. The less protein you have in your body, the less elastic your skin is, which increases the risks of having stretch marks.

Eat meat, eggs and dairy more regularly. If you can’t get a well-balanced diet, introduce protein cocktails into your diet in order to ensure that you consume the daily recommended intake of protein (unless you are pregnant). 

Contrast shower is a highly beneficial activity to make your skin more elastic. It is best to have contrast showers in the morning, performing 10 sets (hot-cold water cycles). 

Also, exercise! Exercising is known to improve circulation and make your skin more elastic. Besides, it improves your mood!



However, it is impossible to completely prevent stretch marks from appearing. But through the mentioned-above activities you can help improve the skin’s elasticity, which thus reduces the chance of having stretch marks.
