If you have already lived in London for a while then you will know by now that it is a fantastic city for walking around. You will also have realised that it has a tremendous wealth of history and fascinating stories.

All of this makes London a brilliant city for walking tours. While this might sound like something just for the tourists, there are some London walking tours that are perfect for residents too.

The London of Oscar Wilde

Fans of the wit and wisdom of Oscar Wilde will love this 2 hour walk with London Walks. It costs £10, £8 for concessions and is free kids under 15 who go with their parents. The walk takes place every Saturday, meeting at 11am at the north exit of Green Park Tube station.  You will feel yourself transported back to the tail end of the 19th century as you visit the places where Wilde enjoyed wild success and suffered terrible tragedies.

London Graffiti and Street Art Tour

London is one of the world's finest cities in terms of street art and graffiti. The truth is that you probably pass some amazing pieces of art every day on your way to work without even noticing. This walking tour is a great way of seeing what you normally don't see. This one is run by Free Tours by Foot and lasts for a couple of hours. You get started outside Whitechapel Gallery, next to Aldgate East Tube station. There is no fixed price, so you pay what you think it is worth at the end.

Jack the Ripper Tour

Ok, so this is one of the London walking tours that are most likely to appeal to tourists. However, residents of the capital can also get a great deal out of it. A number of different firms offer walks around Jack’s old stomping ground in Whitechapel. A good example comes with the Original Jack the Ripper CSI Tour. This has been running for years and currently leaves from outside exit 4 of Aldgate East Tube station at 7pm every night. It costs £10 per person. Even if you aren't particularly interested in Jack, you are sure to see some atmospheric places you didn't know existed and discover a few interesting things about the city along the way.
