Raise your hands if you are excited to watch Snowden this weekend? The film is finally hitting the screens after all the build up and the roadblocks it met along the way.

Apart from the fact that the film is based on the controversial stance of Edward Snowden against US mass surveillance - there is a lot more to know about the film’s interesting making process. Of course, you must have been living under a rock if you missed who Edward Snowden is, but not everybody knows about these facts about the film that will definitely get you more anxious to watch the film!

Digging deeper into Snowden’s life

The film is a political thriller of course, but it lingers close to being a biography as well. So, as we get a close look at the whistle blowing episode and Snowden’s leaking classified documents - we also get an up close and personal look at his back story. We get a peek into his time in CIA and even his short stint at the military.

When Joseph Gordon Levitt met the real Snowden

The makers went as deep as they could for the research involved in the making of the film. Director Oliver Stone and Joseph Gordon Levitt who takes over the main role as Snowden, even had multiple meeting sessions with Snowden himself. These meetings took place in Moscow, where Snowden currently has asylum. The actor had to take hand written notes for his research as phones weren’t allowed due to security reasons.

There’s a starry cast apart from Levit

The cast of the film is quite star studded! And we get to see some of Hollywood’s notable names including Shailene Woodley, Zachary Quinto and Nicolas Cage.

Why American Companies backed out on the film

Due to the film’s controversial premises, American studios and companies didn’t want to be involved with the film. The film ultimately had to be shot in Germany with French and German funding.

Joseph Gordon Levitt lowers his voice by three octaves

We all know Gordon-Levitt takes his projects very seriously. And even if he was actually unsure about who Snowden was before the filming commenced - he went an extra mile to adapt the real Snowden’s mannerisms. He is said to have paid extra attention to Edward Snowden’s voice because he has a distinct way of speaking. He even ripped audio from a previous documentary to get a hang of his voice and lowered his own voice by almost three octaves to get it right.

Snowden might just be one of the most important political thrillers based on recent events, and it looks pretty slick by the first trailers. Overall, it definitely doesn’t look like something you should be missing out on.
