A trip out to this lovely town is virtually guaranteed to make the stresses and strains of the working week disappear. The big attraction here is Windsor Castle, with its splendid grounds and fantastic rooms. There are often events such as music concerts or historical re-enactments here. Away from the Castle, this is a terrific town for wandering along. You will find some great little shops with a lot of places selling Royal souvenirs of all types. If you are feeling like a bit of luxury you can even get whisked around Windsor in a horse drawn carriage. A walk along the edge of the Thames is an excellent idea and you can head down to the bridge and cross the river into Eton as well. When it is time to eat then the Windsor Grill is a classy spot with traditional British food. For a more informal setting you could try The King & Castle pub. You can get the train from London and be in Windsor in half an hour. Paddington and Waterloo are where you can catch a train out here.
If you haven't yet made a trip out to Oxford then you are sure to wonder just what this city of dreaming spires and so much history is like. The oldest university in the English speaking word is to be found here and it is easy to get to Oxford by bus or train. Just strolling around and soaking up the history while you look at the beautiful buildings is a fantastic way to pass some time here. For an ever-bigger dose of culture you could check out the Oxford University Museum of Natural History or the Museum of History of Science. If retail therapy is what you need then the Bicester village shopping outlet is a must. You will find some great restaurants here to keep up your energy levels while you look at top brands such as Armani, Boss, Carolina Herrera and Dior. In Oxford itself you can grab a drink and something to eat at the historic The Bear Inn. The Eagle & Child is a pub that is famous for its JRR Tolkien connections and The Oxford Blue has a reputation for terrific food.
The stunning Canterbury Cathedral dominates this Kent town and you are sure to want to check it out. This is a good place to see an interesting mix of architectural styles, to climb up the Castle or to visit a museum. However, perhaps the most enjoyable thing to do in Canterbury is to take a boat tour along the Stour. When it is time for something to eat you can choose from a good range of pubs, restaurants and cafes. For example, if you want a tasty meal then The Shakespeare is a good bet. Cafe des Amis is a popular spot for those looking for Mediterranean and Mexican food in a cool, quirky setting.
