Could 2016 be the year in which a new writer bursts onto the literary scene and takes our breath away with some incredible writing?

There are a few very exciting new writers around that you might want to keep an eye out for this year. The following are three who could become very big names in 2016.

Jessie Burton

You may have already heard of Burton, as her 2014 debut The Miniaturist achieved a decent level of success. In the summer of 2016 we can expect to see her second novel, called The Muse, to appear. Will this new book take her on to an entirely new level of fame?

The Muse is about an enigmatic painting from the Spanish Civil War that ends up in London in the 1960s. It promises to be a book that slowly reveals it secrets and it could win the writer a whole new legion of fans this year.

Eimar McBride

Another female author about to bring out her second book is Eimar McBride. While she isn’t yet a household name, her 2013 debut (A Girl Is a Half-formed Thing) won some newcomer awards and showed a lot of promise.

This year her new book, called The Lesser Bohemians, will be released. It tells us the tale of an 18 year old girl who travels from Ireland to London in the 1990s and starts an affair with an older actor.

Heidi Heilig

The debut novel from Heidi Heilig is called The Girl from Everywhere. It is a globe-trotting fantasy adventure that is due for release in mid-February. It involves the main protagonist (Nix) travelling from New York back in time to 19th century Hawaii and Scandinavia in ancient times.

This is the first of two books from Heilig that promise a mixture of fantasy and history. They may well proper the writer into the top echelon of new writers in 2016.
